About the Author
Diana Reif first came to the Keys in the 70s and it was love at first sight. She left to attend law school in Miami and then practiced law in the Lower Keys for many years. Originally from Michigan, she also studied in France and Mexico during her undergraduate years. She has traveled widely since then. Diana is an avid painter as well as a writer. She and her husband live in Key West with their rescued dog, Picasso.

A fresh new voice from Key West!

Breaking through the many excellent books coming out of Key West these days comes a terrific fast-paced story unique to this small but prominent jewel in the Florida Keys. In Diana Reif's debut novel, she introduces a feisty, tough heroine with a lot of island smarts. Successfully navigating through the corruption of the bubba and legal systems, young lawyer Tab DeWitt finds a way to outwit the bad guys and come out on top. And the bad guys are all there--a corrupt judge, greedy builders, and assorted crooks. At the center of it all is the emerald loot from a sunken Spanish galleon. A great read to take to the beach. I look forward to more stories from this talented author.

A great Key West tale of sunken treasure

Here’s a mystery that has it all: a savvy heroine, a terrific plot, plenty of Key West atmosphere, and an assortment of unsavory characters who all want a piece of the action from infamous emeralds retrieved from a Spanish galleon. The ship and all hands came to a bad end during a hurricane in the 17th century, but the avarice that drives the plot is alive and well. With money and the emeralds at stake, the main character, smart and clever Tab DeWitt, a lawyer, has to fight off several baddies, tangling with government agents along the way. As Reif brings the story to a satisfying conclusion, I sensed the promise of an equally exciting sequel.

Not to be missed

Not only a captivating story line, this page turner is the best Key West guidebook I've come across. The historical and landmark references give the reader a great outline for a first time Key West visitor to conduct their own self-guided tour! The thinly veiled references to local characters and crooks gives a snail's eye view of the underbelly of Key West.
