This is the standard text in geodesy, and it is exclusively used at Ohio State University. It is very thorough and it is written at the 4th year level. It is also the book you want for Helmut Moritz's complete improvement of his 1967 book, entiled "PhysicalGeodesy" without any deletions and all new improvements. It does in fact come in "hard back and this is the only way to purchase it for lifetime reference!" It is the only one written in English that not only derives the formulas; but covers all existing topics in this field.

This book is fantastic! It present a clear description of the aspects of Physical Geodesy and derives most things that people just throw out magically in other textbooks. This book is a must-have for those interested in the various aspects of Physical Geodesy and is a great reference book for professionals in the industry.
The reader should be forewarned that a good understanding of the Legendre and Associated Legendre equations, and their respective solutions, is needed to understand some of the derivations in the first chapter and give a good foundation for the rest of the book. This material is slightly reviewed, but it will be beneficial to already have some familiarity with Legendre Functions and the Associated Legendre Functions.
