Constructive guide

Confidence isn’t my best asset. So you would expect, from a reserved girl like myself, it would even be more difficult to impress a very strict hiring manager. When I graduated with a degree in business management, I promised myself that I would apply for a top-notch company I could grow in. I had a lot of options but this one company is my dream. To turn the long story short, I sent in an application, and I have an interview next week. Thank goodness!

I decided I would need a few pointers to be more than prepared. So I scouted around Amazon where I usually purchase my e-books and found this one. It is a very comprehensive book. This is the first I’ve read on the subject of job interviews and believe all that I’ll ever need to read. I admire how the author provided structured steps until you get to the focal point. First, you’ll discover how to make a winning resum� (very informative, very useful), then you’ll be educated on the top careers today (consider this), and chapter one ends with how to be your best personality to make it that you’re the only one fit for the job. I especially like this part because it painted me a picture, and reminded me of the qualities I need to possess to win the interviewer over. A team player, flexible, optimistic, are some of the traits I realized I needed to work on so I could make it great. In the book you will find much more, and the author will teach you how to go about improving every one of those winning work characteristics. I learned the importance of body language as well, and that this could be a deal-breaker. I’ve been practicing in front of the mirror. I’m betting I’ll do well.
The second chapter of the book prepares you for the interview in terms of putting yourself out there for companies to find, followed by self-reflection questions before the event, and lastly, knowing how to dress yourself like a professional. To tell you the truth, I got this job interview because I made a LinkedIn profile! In all honesty! It really did work. So I recommend you to do that as soon as you have the time. The author highlighted some reminders before you go to the actual interview. I advise that you read through them and read through them again because I’m sure it would really really help. Then there’s the portion on how to dress to impress. This part – one of the most life-saving! I bought a brand new set of clothes just for this. I’m definitely wearing the part.

When you get to the portion on nail-biting questions, I tell you, you’ll learn and even laugh. There are a lot of questions in there that you didn’t realize hiring managers are trying to squeeze out of you, subtle questions that you think you’d choke on, but not anymore. I won’t go into too much detail, because I think that you should go buy the book yourself. It’s worth the couple of dollars.
The questions and answers I would agree are spot on and will certainly prepare you for what will go on in that room. I feel I’m ready. You deserve to be too.

I got the job thanks to this!

I just had a job interview almost a week ago. Guess what. You can guess right I got the job offer! Woohoo! And I have nothing but this book to thank for. It helped heaps. A friend recommended me to read it and told me everything I needed to know would be found there. I read it three times until I got the whole gist. I’m normally not the anxious guy, but this was a job I was aiming for since before I got my degree, and I nailed it!

The author does not disappoint when he says he will “enlighten”. I tried asking a bunch of people who have jobs and didn’t really get any clear answers, but this book did it for me. I am beyond grateful. The interviewer asked all the questions (except one, but I improvised and it was a cake) that were in this book. I was able to come fully prepared. First I did some research on the company like the author said and I wasn’t too personal in my answers. I placed my goals for the position and the company’s ambitions first. That’s how it worked out well I think. The book also gives a run-through on how to dress well. That, I followed down to every single detail and it seemed, the hiring manager (she) was convinced and even complimented me for my look. What the author also doesn’t forget are tips to self-assessing yourself. These come very handy, as handy as the answers to the questions themselves.
So, I’m starting in two weeks and I’ve never felt so accomplished. Thank you! And buy this book, trust me, it’s FOR THE BEST.

Educational. I’m all set for that interview now!

I’ve been surfing for a few jobs some time now. I let go from my last one. There was a mass layoff and I’ve been scared to push through with applications ever since. While I was looking around online for offers in my line of work, I came across this book on Amazon. I felt that I needed it, and it was only a couple dollars.
Well, I am mighty glad I bought this. My last job was my first job and I didn’t want the interviewer to think that I wasn’t good enough because they kicked some people out. But I learned that you just have to be honest with everything and say your real motives, that you are still willing try despite whatever. That’s what I learned.

I also loved reading the part about how to dress for the interview. Now I know what’s right for the occasion. Haha! Before, I didn’t care what the heck I wore as long as I was comfortable. I didn’t know how much of an impact it could bring to the interview. I like how the author states his advice. Well-explained, as if he’s gone through all interviews with no scratch marks! There’s a part in the book that gives you information about some of the jobs out there today. I think this was helpful because it also gave me a chance to consider other things. Maybe in the future. In total, I would really recommend this book to any job interviewee out there. It has all the questions you could possibly dread about. You’ll come suuperr prepared.
So I have an upcoming interview a week today, and I’m hoping for the best. Without doubt, I’ve gained more confidence.

In his latest scholarly essay, Nino, the author of several notable human rights works, including The Ethics of Human Rights (Clarendon, 1991), asks why some human rights abuses are prosecuted while others are not. He begins by surveying notable 20th-century rights violations and cataloging the successes of their corresponding prosecutions. He then includes a case study of the problems associated with the democratization of his native Argentina. Nino's analysis reveals several factors that account for the relative success of these trials, such as the abruptness of governmental transition and the frequency of abuse. He further argues that rights violations should be prosecuted primarily for preventive rather that retributive reasons. While experts may find Nino's ideas intriguing, most readers will be left wishing for more clearly written prose, more extensive explanations of historical events, and better footnoting of sources. Recommended only for larger academic libraries.

Nino played a key role in guiding the transition to democracy and in shaping the human rights policies of President Raul Alfonsin after the fall of the military junta in 1983: The centerpiece of Alfonsin's human rights program was the trial held in a federal court in Buenos Aires in 1985, which resulted in the convictions of five of the leading members of the junta that ruled the country from 1976 to 1983. Placing the Argentine experience in the context of the war crime trials at Nuremberg, Tokyo, and elsewhere, Nino examines the broader questions raised by human rights trials.

About the Author

John Fante began writing in 1929 and published his first short story in 1932. His first novel, Wait Until Spring, Bandini, was published in 1938 and was the first of his Arturo Bandini series of novels, which also include The Road to Los Angeles and Ask the Dust. A prolific screenwriter, he was stricken with diabetes in 1955. Complications from the disease brought about his blindness in 1978 and, within two years, the amputation of both legs. He continued to write by dictation to his wife, Joyce, and published Dreams from Bunker Hill, the final installment of the Arturo Bandini series, in 1982. He died on May 8, 1983, at the age of seventy-four.

a really great read

John Fante was a great writer. I was introduced to his books through Charles Bukowski. I have read most of his available works. West of Rome is a great book. It contains two novellas. The first one My Dog Stupid is a glorious tale. Fante really captures the feeling of Italian Americans in the early part of the 20th Century. Some may not like the ethnicity but to me it lends a heartrending realism to the stories. The reader will probably feel the emotions of the characters as they tackle life problems. (I almost feel like Bill Clinton here: I feel your pain, man) The story revolves around a family with kids finally grown and setting out for life and their parents adapting to the changes. The dog that enters into their life becomes a motif for the changes in their world. It is a beautiful tale. The second story The Orgy is not as good but it is still classic Fante. This is a grossly underrated writer.

Fante's No. 2 Blend

After reading the classic tale of Arturo Bandini's struggle against the world in "Ask the Dust," I continued to buy Fante novel after Fante novel hoping to find that bellicose charm and straight forward prose that made me laugh out loud. However, 1933 was a Bad Year, Full of Life and Dreams of Bunker Hill did't quite make the cuts. As I read these novels I felt Fante somehow wasn't up to the task of telling the tale all the way through. There wasn't that Bandiniesque immediacy, the unique voice frought with passion and toughness. Well, the first novella in this two novella collection, "My Dog Stupid", has that Ask the Dust magic. Bandini By the Tail. Its Bandini against big dogs, sons in laws, uptight Hollywood lawyers and thankless children. But it isn't without it's heart-warming qualities that shows Fante has mellowed with age like a fine port without losing any of his potency. Always good for a laugh, a smile, a "Hurrah", Fante holds a special place in the American canon. I once said to my wife Graham Greene can write and plot circles around Fante, but if what Emerson said is true that "character is higher than intellect", then no wonder Fante is the guy you want to polish off a bottle with.

Jusr read the first of what I hope to be many Fante books, which was recommended to me by a fellow Bukowski fan. It has been a long time since I laughed out loud reading, and that was a true pleasure. If you like Hem, Bukowski, or any other writer with a gift for a tough, workmanlike line, then Fante is like pudding.
The first novella, "My Dog Stupid" introduces the reader to the harrowing family life of an underemployed Hollywood wrtiter in the late 60's--from the slacker son who makes his mother write college essays to the daughter who "runs away" with her surfer boyfriend for a week at a time, returning to pick up wine and fresh towels.
This is all viewed from the jaundiced eye of the protaginist, who find himself having to decide between his fantasies of a life in Rome, his newly found stray Akita, and dealing with his harried, embittered wife.
Nice stuff.

A brilliant little book

I have been stuck in a rut with my make up routine for a few years so I bought this e-book hoping it would help me update my look a bit. I was not disappointed. It has been a revelation. Just learning the right way to go about choosing my foundation has made the purchase worthwhile a few times over. I wish I had read this years ago, I would have saved myself a fortune! So much money wasted on badly chosen foundations, blushers and eye shadows that would turn out to be not quite right.

Based on the classic ascetic practises of the patristic era, and on their application in the Rule of Benedict, this book sets forth clear, solid, far-reaching insights which would enrich the life of anyone seeking to grow in the spiritual life.
Sister Mary Margaret expresses the principles simply yet with great depth, and, in a style enormously refreshing for the "self-esteem" era (her comments on that concept are very telling), does so with great honesty. She does not qualify the wisdom of two millennia in an attempt to be unwisely "relevant" to the reader. She has no qualms about showing that the Christian ascetic vocation is an endless period of growth, though her expressing how practising discipline of thoughts leads to results unaware will undoubtedly be strengthening during times of struggle.
The only aspect which those new to the topic must keep in mind is that this volume, short though it is, is not meant to be skimmed nor read hurriedly. It is the stuff of the lectio divina to which the early chapters refer - intended for quiet, reflective, prayerful reading. Much of the best material (for example, the sections regarding sex and vainglory) can be missed if one is reading only "key words," without attention to the overall picture which places it into focus.
I have had a deep interest in ascetic theology for thirty years, and am well acquainted with many great writings in that area. I can honestly say that this book is one of the best of contemporary treatments of the subject.

When I wanted to change

Somewhere C. S Lewis says that we too often blame the body for our inordinate passions, when in fact it is the thoughts that we entertain and cultivate that lead "brother ass" down the wrong road. While I am not an expert on the spiritual/psychological life, I am someone who has been attempting to be human for some time and this book is always a great resource to cut to the heart of the matter, which almost always comes back to thoughts.
The book is blunt and to the point, all the time. Although every chapter will not be something that you struggle with, and perhaps only one will apply to you, that one will help you clarify your situation and strengthen your resolve to acquire the mind of Christ. Yet I still find that life is a juggling act, with things always in motion, in and out of balance, and totally interrelated. So in this sense all of the passions are connected. They don't reside in nice little compartments with locks on the doors and peep holes that we can look into as we please. They have a way of overwhelming, overflowing and generally seeking to be dominant. And where one goes so do the others. So this book helps me not keep things in check (that white-knuckling it never works long term) but rather to cultivate the joy of a balanced life in Christ where His grace and will come to be my will. It's the actual meaning of the prayer, "Lord, give to me the desires of my heart", meaning, put your own desires within me. Well, a work in progress anyway and this book helps a great deal.

While not exactly the same style, these books have been useful to me in this regard: The Mountain of Silence: A Search for Orthodox Spirituality, The Screwtape Letters: With Screwtape Proposes a Toast, Father Arseny, 1893-1973: Priest, Prisoner, Spiritual Father : Being the Narratives Compiled by the Servant of God Alexander Concerning His Spiritual Father and Encountering the Depths: Prayer, Solitude, and Contemplation.

How I LOVE this wonderful woman! Many years ago her books really lifted me up during a difficult period of my life and gave me the strength to strive to be independent of all save God. I was just recommending her books to a friend of mine who is going through a separation from her husband so that she might get that same inspiration in her life. I am a Baha'i and I learned so much from Sister Meg that helped me deepen and appreciate my Baha'i practices. LOVE LOVE LOVE especially "Thoughts matter" and "Tools Matter". I would read them again but I gave all my copies of these books to others who needed them.

I have anxiously been anticipating and unpatiently waiting for this sequel since I read AGM, without being able to put it down even to go to the bathroom. I knew it would be exciting and another awesome Sean Wright adventure, but I could not have imagined where Sean the Mastermind of Deviousness would take me in the sequel. I was excited before I opened the book to read and even more excited to see what Sean had in store for me and just like AGM I was hooked from the first page. As I continued to read I just knew I has every thing figured out but boy was I wrong. The twist and turns had my ass fooled and kept me guessing. The ending is what blew my mind away. I thought AGM ending was wild crazy and shocking. This ending had me stunned. They never lied when they said Karma was a bitch. AGM 2 IS A MUST READ! Sean Wright had done it again. --amazon.com

" A Gangster's Melody 2: A New York State of Mind" is the sequel to Sean Wright's " A Gangster's Melody." It picks up four years later with Tiffany being incarcerated in prison for a crime she didn't commit. She vows to make Trayvon pay for what he did to her if she ever gets the chance. What happens next will leave your mouth wide open and Trayvon's world turned completely upside down!
AGM 2 was a fast paced read. There were many twists and turns that I did not see coming.Tiffany definitely grew up in this book. Gone is the naive girl we met in part one. Kudos to Sean Wright for bringing a new spin on things. 4 stars

WOW...from start to finish...I was unable to put this book down. With all the twist, turns and unanswered questions, I was upset not at how the book ended but at the fact I no longer had anything else to read ....I wanted more!!! The readers should definitely expect the unexpected!!

Part 3? Movie? I will try my best to wait patiently but keep them coming. Definitely a book to recommend and an author to follow...Another job well done Sean!!!

If you thought part one left you surprised, shocked, and with your mouth hanging open, then wait until you read the follow up, it doesn't disappoint!

4 years is a long time to sit in prison for a crime you didn't commit but it's even longer when you have revenge on your heart and mind. Since the day the judge slapped Tiffany with a life sentence, she's had nothing but time to orchestrate a way to destroy Travon, but her first mission is finding a way to do so; the only person she can rely on is her best-friend, Monica. Surprisingly and unexpectedly, Tiffany receives a visit from a stranger who happens to be a lawyer, Sophie, and she wants to take on Tiffany's case and when she does, a couple weeks later Tiffany is free and ready to put her plans in motion but Monica is against helping her, not realizing Monica has a plan of her own. Tiffany seeks the help of a friend, Michelle, who just so happens to know someone very close to Travon.

As you read through these pages you'll realize some people just aren't who they claim to be. Will Tiffany be able to extract her revenge on Travon? You'll never believe the out-come!!

Not a disappointment, but nothing to sing about.

The new Forgotten Realms adventure, Cormyr: The Tearing of the Weave, has a neat underlying premise. The heroes are called in to investigate a newly-dedicated Temple of Mystra. Their investigations lead them from the Temple, into the Vast Swamp, and from there into the Plane of Shadow, where they confront minion of Shar and Cyric who are allied in an effort to tear a whole in Mystra's Weave over the Vast Swamp. The heroes must not only stop the evil doers from succeeding, but also perhaps help a down-on-its luck tribe of lizardfolk, and rescue intended sacrifice victims along the way. In this respect, it is not a disappointment. If you are familiar with the history of Faerun, and more specifically between Shar and Mystra, and between Cyric and Mystra, you have a good foundation to run (or play in) this adventure. If you don't? That's where the critique begins.

What's the motive? Why be a hero here other than to walk through an adventure and risk life and limb? The problem here, as it is with A LOT of Wizards adventures is that they are all modified dungeon crawls with little roleplaying, and through that, little character development. Yes, character advancement - you climb levels, but not character development.

Heck, you really don't even get into the heart of "why rip a hole in the weave" beyond to give Shar her own little swamp on the face of Faerun, nor "how the hole is being made," aside from "bellows" and "sacrifices."

I particularly don't like the new model of separating out encounters into another section of the book. It seems wasted space and a means to build in more pages and jack up the price. (I paid full price for this at my FLGS. If you are interested in buying it, I recommend Amazon.com or some other means to get it at a serious discount.) Moreover, you find yourself constantly flipping between the descriptive text and the matching encounter to simply keep track of where the characters are at and what's going on. Frustrating.

Also, no table of contents? I know this is a pretty straight forward adventure. It is a dungeon crawl afterall. But a table of contents is one page, or even half a page, and helps the reader see the organization. So, why not?

The new templates are "nice," but nothing to sing about. Dragon magazine has printed better. (See Issue 322 for the Shade Racial Class Level Progression.) Still, the Dark is a nice go-between from "normal" to "shade". The magic items are minimal. And there are no new monsters to fawn over.

In the end, there are interesting sights and interesting foes to encounter. Wizards did not break from its mold in building this adventure. There is no cutting edge new dynamics, nor underlying twist that makes you revel in the mastery of design. All in all, it's not a disappointment. But it's also nothing to write home about.

Good for an experienced DM

I mostly enjoyed this product. On the down side, the book does get a bit confusing due to the new encounter format. For those unfamiliar, all the tactical details of an encounter are listed seperately on another page than the general description and details of the area concerned. Meaning, you have to flip back and forth some to get the true measure of what is going on. The encounter format is not all bad though, it is fairly streamlined, containing all the pertainent info you need to run the particular combat. Also, due to the somewhat chaotic layout of the rift (the climax area of the adventure), it feels less organized than the other sites.

On the plus side, the encounters themselves are imaginative, with interesting opponents, obstacles, complications, and possible developments. While your characters aren't likely to leave a lot of recurring villians, they do pick up pieces of a puzzle along the way and visit interesting places.

I would recomment this product for those you can overlook the problems mentioned in the first paragraph.

Mediocre at best

I was very disappointed with this book. It has little to do with Cormyr. Even if you're focused on setting a game in Cormyr you can skip purchasing this book. You'll get nothing in the way of useful source material. The adventure has one or two interesting parts, but you can definitely do better by writing your own. This book also seems to focus on a new style that comes off as focusing more on the fights than the story. I found important information scattered about the book and it was often difficult to make it fit together.
