OMG what did I read?

So, I downloaded this because it was free. I love freebies, and even though they are always hit or miss, I usually end up with something somewhat enjoyable.
I also enjoy Menage stories, but this one was just... not hot at all.
This was just very badly written, the characters were so all over the place, I felt like I couldn't follow what was really going on, and then.... I just had to flounce. All I can say is location 178. Um, no.
It wasn't remotely sexy, seemed like the sex was so hurried and with no thought, and I just didn't like the direction the story took. They seemed like immature, vindictive and selfish people.
I think this is in serious need of editing, mostly. I think a thoughtful editor or beta reader could have prevented some of the major mistakes in this book.
At least it was free. That's about the best thing I can say about this one.

Another great read from the author

Stories written by Adriana Kraft are done with a twist on the usual plots that you find within the genre. In this m/f/f m�nage, the twist is the women fall for each other and the man is left to wonder where he stands.

It all starts when Sarah and Adam meet again at their twenty-year reunion. After a night of passion, Adam flees home to his live-in lover, Maria. Sarah has lusted/loved Adam for so long, she's not giving him up this time. So, she follows him home. I loved when Sarah mistook Maria's position in Adam's household.

Adam doesn't want to upset the balance he has in his house, so he's going to push all of Sarah's sexual boundaries, thinking she'll get scared and run. But Sarah takes everything Adam throws at her and loves it. When Maria and Sarah take the plunge and get together sexually, they find themselves falling for each other.

Adam has to figure out his place in the women's lives or if he wants to share at all.

There are secondary characters from Sarah's past that show up to complicate everyone's life. All of the characters are well-written; the sex scenes are scorching hot. The story flowed along nice and easy to read. This is another great read from Adriana Kraft.

Hot and Steamy

Their twenty year class reunion leads Adam and Sarah to a dance around floor. Sexual tension was high between them which lead to a night of passion. When Adam leaves without saying goodbye Sarah decides to through caution to the wind and pay him a visit for more hot sex his live in girlfriend answers the door. Maria Ramirez is the super delight of this trio. At first Sarah thinks Maria is a maid and Maria strings Sarah along for a bit while at the same time becoming increasingly enamored with her. And then everything turned when Maria and Sarah finally got intimate together and then fell for one another. Of course like most men Adam is stubborn and did not want get with the program for all 3 of them together, so what do the 2 smart women do? They turn up the heat. Adam has a hard time come to terms with his feelings for both women he becomes jealous of their relationship and the fact that had a threesome with out him. The sex scenes were really good. This was a new author to me and I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was really surprised. I gave this book 4.5 stars and I would have given it 5 if the authors would have explained a little more why Adam was afraid of commitment and not wanting kids a little more. Really good F/F/M or F/M/F.

The movement of a piece of data inside a computer program is treated exactly the same as the transfer of a message--or indeed an entire computer program--across the internet. One can also describe networks which reconfigure themselves. The calculus is very simple but powerful; its most prominent ingredient is the notion of a name. Its theory has two important ingredients: the concept of behavioural (or observational) equivalence, and the use of a new theory of types to classify patterns of interactive behaviour. The internet, and its communication protocols, fall within the scope of the theory just as much as computer programs, data structures, algorithms and programming languages. Gives helpful insights into the workings and foundations of the pi-calculus

Process algebras, of which the pi-calculus is an example, have been the subject of intense interest in the last decade, primarily because of their applications. These applications have concentrated mostly in business process modeling, the modeling of concurrent processes, and computational biology. This short book is an introduction to pi-calculus from the standpoint of Robin Milner, its originator. The length of the book should not dissuade interested individuals from reading it, as there is much to be gained from its perusal, due to the insights that the author grants into the formalism and workings of the pi-calculus.

The book is divided into two parts, with the first part being a general overview of how to model or describe concurrent communicating systems, and the second an overview of the pi-calculus. In the first part, the author wants to make a distinction between models of computing that involve `computation', and those that involve `interactional' behavior. The former is done using Turing machines and the lambda calculus, while the latter is illustrated in the pi-calculus. To get to the pi-calculus, the author wants first to generalize the classical theory of automata to situations where the automata run concurrently and interact with each other. He emphasizes that interactive behavior is best represented by a non-deterministic automaton which cannot be equated (behaviourally) with a deterministic automaton.

In order to justify this assertion more rigorously, the author discusses the notion of `bisumulation' of nondeterministic sequential processes, as essentially a warm-up for the treatment of concurrent processes. This notion defines an equivalence relation called `bisimilarity' which respects the nondeterminism of these processes. When dealing with concurrent processes, the makes a distinction between actions that are externally observable from those which are internal (interactions between the components themselves). In addition, one needs a refined notion of when concurrent processes are equivalent in some sense, since their effects or behaviors, whether observable or not, may essentially be equivalent. Thus the author discusses the notion of `structural congruence' and that of `strong equivalence.' The latter is a generalization of the notion of bisimulation, but as it turns out one can show that every concurrent system is strongly congruent to a sequential one. This and the fact that strong congruence is still sensitive to the amount of interaction between internal processes motivates the author to define `weak bisimulation'.

The pi-calculus is viewed as a `calculus of mobile processes.' Introduced in 1992 by the author, it views the movement of a process as due entirely to the movement of its links, i.e. in a virtual space of linked processes. The emphasis in the pi-calculus is on certain patterns of behavior that are respected by a given family of systems, and not on `type systems' in the usual programming paradigm. Data is to be represented by a name, the latter of which is essentially a communication channel. The author first defines the pi-calculus for the case where a message consists of exactly one name. Readers familiar with the earlier work of the author will find the notation he uses familiar, but those who are not will find it somewhat peculiar, and it takes some getting used to. This is due partially to the fact that a name can be bound in an input action but can be free in an output action. The pi-calculus does have a diagrammatic representation, and this is elucidated upon in the book. Data structures, so important in the usual computing paradigms, are viewed in the pi-calculus as a special kind of process. Several examples are given on how to apply the pi-calculus to some of the usual situations encountered in programming. The paradigms of object-oriented and functional programming can be realized in the pi-calculus as the author shows using a type system for the pi-calculus. Processes, as well as data, can be sent as messages. The type systems he uses involve as expected the `sorts' and `sortings' that enable the classification of the sorts of information that can be transmitted in an interaction.

So is the pi-calculus a different computing paradigm that is to be distinguished from Turing computability or the lambda calculus? One should probably not think of it as such, since the author shows in the book that the lambda calculus can be expressed in the pi-calculus formalism. In addition, one should not expect that the pi-calculus processes require something other than a Turing machine for their computation. It would indeed be a surprise if this were the case, but as it stands now there is no indication that there are processes computed from the standpoint of the pi-calculus that cannot be computed from the standpoint of Turing machines. The Church-Turing thesis therefore remains in effect for the pi-calculus.

Optimal as a starter in pi-calculus

How can we describe communicating mobile systems? How can we state that a communicating system "behaves as", and therefore "can be replaced with", another one? This short book (about 150 pages plus bibliography, TOC and index) gives an answer to these questions. The books is in two parts: The first presents CCS, the simpler formalism from which pi-calculus originated, which does not model information exchange between communicating systems. From hence the more complex pi-calculus is presented. The aim is presenting the theory of equivalences between communicating processes, based on bisimulation. First a language for processes is introduced, with its formal syntax and its semantics, then a theory of behavioral equivalence is developed via the bisimilarity concept, and observation equivalence between processes is introduced as a particular flavour of bisimilarity. Finally is proved how a process can be freely replaced by an equivalent one in any context without affecting the overall behavior.
If you are a student or researcher in the field of formal methods for describing and reasoning on communicating systems the book is definitely a must: It introduces quickly many key concepts of pi-calculus, bisimulation and observational semantics. It is also well written, ideal for students. Its plus is the strong link between CCS and pi-calculus, and the fact that, coming after a long experience with the zillions of variants of the pi-calculus, this presents a very clean and self-contained variant. This is also its downside: Some concepts are not introduced, like early and late variants of strong bisimulations. Two semantics are presented, labelled transition and (unlabelled) reduction systems, but without explaining why, nor any equivalence semantics is given for the reduction system. As a result, it seems that reduction semantics is there just as an exercise, but that we do not really need it. More aware readers would possibly prefer other books, like e.g. Sangiorgi and Walker, which appears as a very comprehensive account of pi and its variants.
Also note that the book's purpose is presenting a theory of equivalence between communicating systems, not applications of this theory (the examples just serve the purpose to enlighten the concepts). This implies, for example, that it is not a textbook on how you can write and prove correctness of concurrent/distributed software, nor a collection of algorithms.

good overview of pi, but a bit thick on formalism at times

This is a very good overview of pi-calculus, It starts off well with a review of automata theory and then extends it to communication and concurrency. It focuses more on the principles than on practical aspects of using it for real systems. It uses good examples throughout, and with the formalistic presentation it requires careful attention of the reader. It is hard read at times but worth it. However, it is not for a casual reader, but for the really motivated.

The classic power engineering book for oil & gas fields

This is THE classic technical book for power engineering as directly applied to oil and gas fields. It IS suitible for foremen, team members, engineers, anyone with any college experience. While it does include abstract, power engineering math, anyone working in an oil field can benefit.
The electric power aspects of oil extraction for primary recovery and waterflooding are well covered. This is down to nuts and bolts - what motor? what starter? what wire and field transformer?
This book was originally written in 1962 and updated in 1981. Some of the costs are out of date but the basic electric power information is still correct. Electrical power considerations for other forms of OER are not covered, since they were not common in 1962.
This book is hard to find, demand being low.
I would rate it 5 stars if it were updated and included sections on modern developments: progressive cavity oil pumping, steam flooding, higher effeciency motor types and applications, variable frequency drive applications.

About the Author
Paolo Soleri was born in Torino, Italy, in 1921. He moved to Arizona after WW II to study with Frank Lloyd Wright. He started his owsn Cosanti Foundation in the 1950s, and engaged into the monumental Arcosanti project, a prototype city in the northern Arizona desert. His vision, his writings, his worldwide recognition earned him the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in 2000 - the equivalent of a Nobel Prize for the Arts. Paolo Soleri lives in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Imagine a complete city in one structure

If you can imagine a future where cities cover every bit of earth's available space (think LA everywhere), then you can also imagine an alternative. Whole cities inside massive structures of incredible design, leaving most of our precious land open for us to enjoy and treasure. Paolo Soleri envisioned such cities and his drawings will inspire you and spark your imagination of what could be. Imagine cities that float on the sea or stretch across canyons and you will get the idea. Architecture students or just about anyone with an imagination will be amazed by his designs. I hope to live long enough to see one of his massive structures built.

A chance encounter on an airplane and a week-long conference brings together protagonists, Kat and Mac, two wine aficionados with sizzling chemistry and a cool confidence that draws them together like opposite sides of a magnet. I loved the first two books in this series, and was really looking forward to Kat's book. It did not disappoint.
Seduction, is the new sexy, trendy restaurant/bar in Portland. Owned by five women, best friends who are all smart, beautiful and talented. Kat runs the bar.
After surviving her worst fear (flying) with the help the sexy man seated next to her. She is bound and determined to enjoy her wine conference. Even more so, when her seat mate turns up at the same place. Kat decides Mac is just the thing she needs for a perfect sexcation. Neither wanting anything long term. Enjoy the week, and go their separate ways.
Going their separate ways is harder, when it turns out, not only does Mac live in Portland. He also works within walking distance of the restaurant, and has just moved into Kat's building.
Two people, completely and totally against relationships, suddenly find it impossible to be apart. They calm each other. Mac helps Kat sleep, something she has never been able to do. Kat helps Mac understand and accept his family issue. They fit.
This was a quick read. Very low drama and angst. Just a nice getting to know you and fall in love story. I loved catching up with the first two couples, and look forward to the next one.

I have loved every book in this series but very rarely do they get better as the series goes on. This is the exception to that rule. This was my favorite book of the series so far. The perfect mix of laughs love and drama.

Kat is the bada** of the group. A Mensa genius with her own style who is also willing to throw a punch to protect the ones she loves. She is extremely independent and not looking for a man to fill a void.

Mac is a business owner, brother and all around good guy. He isn't looking for anything serious either when he meet Kat, but something about her brings out his protective instincts.

They agree to be each other's sexcation buddy when they see each other at a conference they are both attending and so begins a week of nonstop Hotness.

When they are both back in the real world they both crave what they had when they were together but will they have the strength to go after what they want?

And what happens when the unexpected happens and Kat is fighting for her life?

Great Characters. Great Story. Great Series. Can't wait for the next book.
