Boone needed to get the girl!

While I enjoyed this book I can’t truthfully say that Bride on the Run is my favorite in the Runaway Bride Series. (That would be There Goes the Bride) However, I was thrilled to see that Boone received his own story. I had felt bad for him when Annamae broke her engagement to him in The Wedding Auction. He really was not a full-fledged character in that book so I was glad to see him fleshed out in this one. The author’s di a great job expanding his character so that the reader could understand his calm, detached controlled approached to life. I liked Valerie and her self-reliance, so that she could land on her feet when life went downhill for her. Really these characters were not so much opposites as they were of on opposite’s sides of one issue, the radio talk show.

My biggest problem was with the contrived plot about her having to attend the Gala with Boone. I can’t see a famous baseball player needing to resort to that kind of blackmail. I got that he is not wanting a real date that might begin to cling but surely he would know someone who would willingly be his public date only. I just never could get my head around that to find it plausible so that is why it lost .25 of a point. I think just needing to confront Serena /Valerie would have been enough of a plot device. However, remember this is one reader’s opinion only.

Overall a neat little romance with some intrigue and danger. All of that ties up nicely at the end with Boone getting the girl this time.

Excellent end to the series and my favorite of the group!

I really enjoyed this book, it neatly brings everything around and makes sure everyone gets their happy ending. I have read all the books in this series and this is one of my favorites, it can be read stand alone but I recommend the whole series as it is quite fun. I loved Valerie, she was a pretty awesome character, she is smart and strong willed and determined to live beyond the reach of her powerful (and dirty) family. From the beginning of this series I thought Boone was a good guy, if a little misguided and this story just proves it. Yes he can come off as overbearing and high handed but he is also very relatable (you know for a pro athlete). I enjoyed watching each of these characters grow and watching them grow together. I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

I was a little unsure about reading this book because the cover makes the story look like a very light romance involving biker people. These two ideas are not my favorite subjects for a book. However, having read books by Catherine Mann and Joanne Rock before, I knew that they did not usually write those kinds of books. I am so happy that I finally took the time to read the book because I thoroughly enjoyed the story.

Valerie Dimitri is a woman who is trying to live her life separately from all of her questionable relatives, except her father. Unfortunately, she is walking down the aisle at her own wedding before she realizes that her fianc� is just as bad as her relatives. She runs away on her father’s motorcycle and changes her name.

She is now the owner of a lucrative call-in-for-advice sex phone show. Unfortunately she gave bad advice to Boone Sullivan, a popular baseball player, whose fianc�e left him. He finds Valerie and wants her to publicly tell everyone that she was wrong. This sets up many problems that lead Valerie and Boone to run away with each other.

I found this book very difficult to put down until I finished the entire story. The main characters, Valerie and Boone, are extremely likeable people. He is the ideal boyfriend. He is handsome, gentle, caring and anything else a woman might want. Valerie is attractive, independent and caring. Boone finds Valerie so attractive that he becomes side-tracked his original reason for finding her.

This is the fourth book in this series by these authors, but truthfully I had no idea when I was reading this book. The other couples in the book did not need any other introduction. And the breakup of Boone and his ex-girlfriend was so very well explained that I thought I knew everything. However, I loved the book so much that I went to buy the other books in the series, and I realized that every couple, including Boone and his ex-friend had their own books.

It takes fantastic writers to let us read the fourth book in a series and never once realize that characters were in other books. And, these too authors are fantastic. The characters in this book are likeable people we can relate to even though their circumstances are quite different. These characters are so well-defined that I feel as though I know them. The plot is exciting and also well-developed with several unexpected twists and turns. By the end of the book, I knew that I wanted to read all of the other books in the series!
I especially enjoyed reading about the behind-the-scenes life of a major league baseball player and their wives/girlfriends.

About the Author

Susan M. Gass, Michigan State University and Larry Selinker, NYU

Susan Gass is University Distinguished Professor in the Department of Linguistics and Germanic, Slavic, Asian and African Languages at Michigan State University. She has conducted research in a wide variety of sub-areas of second language acquisition including language transfer, language universals, second language research methods, and input and interaction. She is the author/editor of numerous books, has served as the President of the American Association for Applied Linguistics and is the President of the International Association of Applied Linguistics (AILA).

Larry Selinker is one of the original contributors to the research field of Second Language Acquisition, having introduced the concepts "interlanguage" and "fossilization" and having conducted one of the first empirical studies in "language transfer" research in 1969. Consistently seeking a more unified account which would integrate concepts of "interdialect," "interculture," and "interliteracy" with new media, he is now preparing a 40-plus year fossilization study on participants first looked at in 1964. He has held professorships at the Universities of Michigan and London and visiting professorships at various universities around the world. Currently, he is Visiting Professor at New York University and, exploring processes of� "around sourcing," is helping to organize Research Production Associates.

We abandoned this book

This book was erroneously selected by my professor for our graduate program class. Many students complained about the book's dry and dull content. The authors seem more interested in showing off their academic prowess and overburdening the student with too much information. The book's chapters lack any sort of crystallization to bring the concepts in the chapter together. So, our professor suggested that we abandon the book--we all overwhelmingly agreed.

This book should not be titled "an introductory course".

When is part 3 coming out? I had to read book 1 first and was not able to put it down, I expected the same from book 2. I have to say I was NOT disappointed. OMG, this is a must read (be sure to read Book 1 first). I can not wait until the next one.

Rico and Terrie they make a good couple thou he put her through hell but she love him and Rico love her. Saiid and his Women he was so crazy he had me laughing he finally meet his match wit Dee Dee. Treshe was a trip she was off the chain she was in luv wit Rasim he lie to her so many times to one day she follow him n find out where he been spending his time wit another woman she saw he came out the house holding a baby boy looks just like him well dam. She lost it broke the Windows out of his n her car n truck wit a bat n pour gasoline on them a lite a match n sit them on fire. the house had smoke inside of it wit the baby in there. So much drama in book two had me on edge I can't wait to read the next book now that Terrie is kidnap and Rio needs to make amends wit his fine daddy we all make mistakes nobody's perfect hopefully in due time he forgive his father. So ready for book 3 love me so Rico and Saiid.

Dark and Brooding

When I signed up to review Mortal Fire, by C.F. Dunn, I didn't realize that it really wasn't my style of book. I'm not a fan of dark, brooding suspense, so read my review with a grain of salt.

This is the tale of Emma, a young professor searching for secrets in a hidden 17th century journal. There are many interruptions in her search - friends playing matchmaker, malicious professors, violent attacks, falling in love with another professor. There are many complications in the relationships that Emma works to understand and overcome - most which I cannot describe without spoiling the story. There is a current of fear and suspense throughout the book which perhaps raises more questions than it gives answers. The author leaves much room for character and plot development throughout the series.

Overall, I found the book to be slow, dark, and confusing. The storyline has potential, but it would benefit from the paring of a good editor. I won't be reading the rest of the stories, but if you like dark suspense novels, you might enjoy them more than me.

Book does not have a conclusion. Must buy the 2nd, 3rd? to finish

I had a hard time starting this book. Author is far too wordy. It actually irritated me because it was unnecassary and almost like she was trying to impress(?) but once she relaxes the rest of the book flows a little nicer. The scene is at college/university and that does not change. I am very forgiving when it comes to books especially in this genre which I love. I can say that I finished it only to have the book just end but the story does not. This book doesn't even wrap it up at all so to finish the story you must buy the next book. I have no idea how many she hooks you with before the story ends. If she was a better writer it may have not angered me as much as other collections that I have loved.

really interesting read

First the bad news (ok, maybe good news, depends on if you're a glass half full/empty person)- this is the first book of a planned TRIOLOGY. Ok, you can sigh now, as you know what that means- not all the answers to the questions posed in the synopsis will be answered!

Secondly, this is a BIG book at almost 400 pages, yet I read it in 2 nights- so yes, you are gonna scream right on through it, and then have that quintessential reading moment of "Nooooo, it can't be over"....luckily the author gives a long intro preview into the next book, so you have an inkling where the next one will start (again good/bad news).

Thirdly, the author crafts a mean story- her characters will lure you in and spellbound you. If you get caught up in series, this one will hook you by the second chapter! Every time you think you know where the story is going, the author put's it on its head and spins you off in another direction.

Fourthly, even those the book has Christian overtones and theme, it is not slap you in the face. In fact, it is so deftly crafted into the story, that it is totally appropriate and realistic.

Fifth, if you're a lover of supernatural books, the book will drive you MAD (to quote the British), as you try to figure out the link between the journal and the main characters. When you think you have it, the author applies a twist, and you're back trying to decipher the clues, and wondering if this is something NEW. AHA, now I have your interest!

This was a really interesting, if exasperating at the end!, read, and I'm sure Tolkien and C.S. Lewis would applaud the author's weaving of her tale! I will be anxiously awaiting the 2nd book! Check it out- it's perfect for a Fall read!
